We are indebted to the enthusiasm and finances of Christian organisations in the Western world for the great surge in Near Eastern archaeological exploration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sadly, the aim of proving Biblical narrative on the ground was but rarely realised. However, although direct evidence of the Exodus from Egypt is lacking: many aspects of the story are in accord with known Egyptian and Mesopotamian parallels or capable of scientific explanation.
This, then, is the story of Moses, the Ark of the Covenant, and the Exodus as seen through the rational eye of science…a hair-raising tale, even so.  S
